January 2014 Birchbox Review

In January I made a post showing you all what I got in my Birchbox. I always like going back towards the end of the month (before I get the next month's box) and let you know what I thought.

There were 5 items in this month's Birchbox:

1. Nourishing Body Cream by 100% Pure - I received three .067 Fl oz packages. The packing was nice only in the fact I used one package each time and didn't have to worry about closing it up. The full-size is 8 oz for $15 dollars. For perspective that is the same size as Bath and Body works Triple Body Moisture Cream. I might end up getting the full size when I finish some lotions I already own. Being 100% vegan and natural it is worth the few dollars more. There are many different kinds, I think I would try Green Apple. I received Pink Grapefruit, it smelled good, I just like the Green Apple smell better.

2. Protect & Detangle by Beauty Protector - The next product was one I was super excited about, my hair get so tangled so I thought this would be a great product. Unfortunately, it would not spray out and so I had to dumb it in my hair to use. I use two products already to detangle and give moisture to my hair. I like those two so much better then Protect and Detangle. I received 1 oz and the full size is $21.95 and 8 oz. I have other products  that I love so much more so I will not be purchasing this!

3. Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser by Liz Earle- I received 1 fl oz the full-size is only 3.3 fl oz and $21.50. I really liked this product, I don't know if I would pay that much for it though. I think I will probably try some other face washes. I liked how the muslin cloth felt like it was exfoliating my skin! I am really glad I got this in my birchbox!

4. Kitten Heels by Ruby Wing- I love getting nail polish in my birchbox! This color was such a fun color, I have a post on this to see the color better!

5. Assorted Teas by Ahmad Tea London- This was a fun surprise! I have recently fell in love with tea so it was fun to try these. I received three different flavors, two black teas (Peach & Passion Fruit and English Tea No. 1) and one green tea (Jasmine Romance).
I liked the Peach & Passion Fruit as well as the Jasmine Romance. I wasn't a fan of the English Tea No. 1 it was too bitter for me. I might have to order these teas you get 40 bags for $7.
Thank you reading! I hope you enjoyed ! I totaled up what this would have cost based on what I got in my Birchbox and the total was over $15 dollars. Birchbox is a a flat $10 rate and no shipping, so if you have an extra ten dollars each month you should try it! I love getting a new box each month and the surprise of what's inside!

They Can't Locate My Professor ?

This story is odd, interesting and all kinds of weird and it is still unfolding and I will keep you posted!

Background: I am sure many of you all know that I am studying Elementary Education. However, I was studying Civil Engineering and was 18 hours away. So, in college I have taken Calculus 1, 2 and 3 as well as Differential Equation. When I switched my major to Elementary Education I did have to take one more math class called: Math for Elementary Teachers. This class is suppose to teach you how to teach math to children I was so excited for this class because I love teaching an d math so...what could be better?
Start of the Semester: The first day I walked into class (MWF 2:30-3:20), I was excited! Then the professor said this is NOT how to teach children math but teaching you all math. Are you kidding me? I talked to my adviser and I couldn't get out of the class. This class quickly became one of my least favorite classes in college. I never wanted to go, but I always made myself just in case he said something important while he was teaching us addition!

My husband & I
Friday: My husband, Andy, also has a class at this time so we ride together back to school. My professor was always a few minutes late, but the university has a policy that if they are more then ten minutes late you can leave. On Friday he never showed up so we all left. We thought it was odd because we had homework to turn it and he hadn't answered anyone's emails. My friend and I just talked until my husband was done with class.

Monday: Andy had to stay at school between classes to work on a project so I drove myself back up to school. As I sat in the class 5 minutes went by and close to the ten minute mark another professor came in and said, "we can not locate your professor so class is cancelled today." Everyone was confused on what he meant but I just went home, a little frustrated that I had driven there just to turn around and go back.

Tuesday: I received an email from the math department saying:
Hello,
Thanks for your concern for your professor. I can tell you that he is okay.
Your Math class will have coverage so plan on attending as usual.  (a little more detailed but this was the gist.)

So, we will see what happens on Wednesday and see if they tell us anymore. I have never in my life been told that we can't locate your professor/teacher. Do you have a odd story about a teacher? Leave it as a comment! Thanks for reading!

NOTD: Kitten Heels by Ruby Wing

This week I didn't paint my nails till Monday evening because I was so busy. I got this in my January Birchbox and I love the bright color. I normally don't like brighter colors in the winter, but this really brightened up anything I wore. On Tuesday we had a snow day and of course the sun was not out. These pictures were taken on two different days because of that.

Inside Light (Yellow Tint)

At the window during the snow

A day later when the sun was out!

As you can see, the nail polish did change colors a little bit. It was not super noticeable. I might have to try it in the summer when there is lots of sun to see if it makes a difference. I do love this color! I am so glad I received it in my January Birchbox! I would purchase more from Ruby Wing. It has stayed on for over a week, normally when I work some chips off. This nail polish was great and brightened up the deary weather! Thanks for reading!

What is your favorite bright winter polish?

Products I Used Up in January!

Since moving, seeing everything I have I decided to really focus on using things up. To get rid of the clutter and excess, so each month on my beauty channel and on here I will be posting what I used up that month and how I liked it. This month there is mainly beauty products. Next month, there should be some makeup thrown in as well!

1. Bath and Body Works Lotion in Signature Vanilla & Berry: I love this scent! I definitely like the Triple Body Moisture Creams better then the body lotions. I would get this again just for the scent! According to Bath and Body Works it is "a juicy kiss of luscious berries and cool vanilla. It is a pretty sweet scent and smells exactly what you would think. So, if you like berries and vanilla scent check this out!

 2. Possibilities By Ann Taylor: I have had two bottles and lotions of this perfume. I really like it the scent. "Its delicate and classic fragrance flaunts a bouquet of Bulgarian Rose, Waterlily, Blue Rose, Peach Musk, and Exotic Woods in an exquisite bottle." I might repurchase this later. For now, I am going to use up some of my other perfumes and try some new ones!

 3. Dove REFRESH+care Invigorating Dry Shampoo: To start with I wouldn't repurchase this product. I have found a dry shampoo that I really like, it is Not Your Mothers -- Clean Freak Dry Shampoo! The Dove Dry Shampoo did have
Two positives:
a. It didn't leave a white residue in my hair (not usually a problem with my blonde hair, but could be helpful for others.)
b. The smell: it is a lot like floral perfume. Too much and it is over powering though.
Two negatives:
a. It didn't last long. I feel like I used this maybe five times before it was empty. It is pretty inexpensive but I was hoping for it to last longer.
b. It didn't make my hair not greasy. My hair get greasy so easily, so some mornings I need dry shampoo. This no matter what method I used to apply it, it never worked!

4. Downy Unstoppables in Shimmer: This stuff is amazing! There are 6 different scents. This one is in Shimmer (my favorite of the ones I have tried) light floral and freshness. I love how it makes my clothes smell. All you do is put it in your washer with your detergent and it makes your clothes smell so good! It does last but it is not strong when they come out of the dryer. I am not sending my husband to work/school smelling like a flower garden! Since we finished this we decided to try Purex Crystals and I definitely want to get Downy Unstoppables when we run out!

5. Bath and Body works body mist in Butterfly Flower: I have had this body Mist for a long time! It smells just like a floral garden! The scent is too strong for me, but the scent didn't last long. I got this such a long time ago that now they just have shower gel and body lotion in this scent. The description of the scent they give is : " Butterfly Flower is a light scent, inspired by the natural elegance and playful femininity of a garden in full bloom
Top Notes: Black Tea, Mouthwatering Tangerine, Cyclamen, Banana Leaf
Mid Notes: Maxillaria Tenufolia Orchid, Asian Syringa Flower, French Mimosa." I used this not only as a body mist but as a room spray, but I wouldn't repurchase this.
6. Bath and Body works Pomergranit Citrus Fragrance Mist: Again, I got this scent such a long time ago that they do not sell it anymore, I did find it on Amazon for anyone that is curious. The back of my bottle says that it is a exotic burst of zesty citrus and fresh pomegranate. I won't be repurchasing this even if they were to bring it back, even though I loved the smell. The reason is because I used this mainly as a room spray. I can buy less expensive room sprays that stay in the air longer. If I were to use this as a body mist I could purchase perfumes that last a lot longer. Overall, I don't think I will be repurchasing body mists. I do have a few finish up though.

 7. Bath and Body Works Triple Moisture Body Cream in Charmed Life: I am not obsessed with Bath and Body Works. but they always get me with their sales when I go in to get one thing, I come out with 6. Like I said before I love their triple Body Moisture Creams, this one is not exception. This scent with is "charming blend of guava, pear and vanilla musk inspired by taking chances, having fun and savoring life's fabulous moments."  Unfortunately, this is discontinued or I would repurchase this in no time!
 8. Bumble and bumle's BB Creme De Coco: I loved this stuff! I will definitely have to repurchase it! When my hair felt dry and I would use this and it would feel so moisturized and less frizzy! My mom gave me this as a sample and I am so glad she did! I had to be careful though because if my hair wasn't feeling dry it made my hair feel a little greasy. It is pricey, but I think it is worth it!

 9. LA Fresh Make-up Remover Towelettes: I will not be repurchasing this only because I do not use make-up remover wipes anymore. They all leave my face feeling slimy.
10. Jouer Lip Enhancer: I got this as a sample in my Birchbox. I really liked the product and enjoyed using it. The reason I will not be repurchasing is that it is quite pricey.I have found products that I like better for cheaper.

11. Trident Layers Grape Lemonade: I loved this stuff! Lemons and Lemonade are probably my favorite flavor and this gum didn't disappoint! Try it out! I know I will be repurchasing it!

Thanks for reading I hope you enjoyed! Let me know what your favorite thing was for the month of January!

  1. What is your favorite eye shadow? (Color or Shade) I don't have a favorite eye shadow. However, I do love neutrals, especially with a little shimmer in them.
Three of my Favorites: Urban Decay-Naked Pallet, Wet N Wild-Walking on Eggshells, Maybelline Expert Wear- Mocha Motion
  2. Do you use pencil or liquid eye-liner? I switch between a pencil, a liquid and a gel eyeliner. I don't use eyeliner most days
I use all kinds of eyeliners
  3. How often do you poke your eyes with an eye liner pencil? I don't know if I have ever poked myself with my eyeliner.
  4. What do you think of pigment eye shadows? I like them, they just need a good base to stick to and can't get
This is a picture of some mineral makeup & pigment eye-shadow I have!
  5. Do you use mineral make-up? I have before and still have some, but I don't reach for it that often.
  6. What is your favorite lipstick? I have different lipsticks I wear for different seasons. One I love for spring summer and even sometimes in the winter is Shocking Coral from the Maybelline Vivid's Collection.
  7. How about lip gloss? For this I decided to pick a more winter/fall color. It is Un-wined Wet Slicks Amazement by CoverGirl. I love its pigmentation and its staying power!

  8. What is your favorite blush? The blush I chose is one that has great pigmentation! I love that it shows up and is easy blendable. It also helps that this is quite affordable. Dusty Rose is the only blush I own from NYX, but I want to get more!
  9. Do you buy make-up on e-bay? No, I haven't ever wanted something that I couldn't get in the stores.
  10. Do you like drug store make-up? Yes, I love the cost and that you can try different things out without going broke!

  14. Name a make-up crime that you hate? I don't like when your face is a totally different color then the rest of your body.

  15. Do you like colorful shades of make-up (lipstick, eye shadow) or neutral tones? It depends for lipstick I feel like my skin needs brighter/colorful shades to make it look more alive especially, in the winter. Since I have blue eyes, I think the neutral browns really make my eyes pop. I do play around with color sometimes too. When I dyed my hair, I loved wearing blue eye shadow!
  16. Which celebrity always has great make-up? Julianne Hough
  17. If you could leave the house with just ONE Make-up item, what would you use? Probably tinted moisturizer or tinted lip balm. Depending on how my face looked and felt that morning.
  18. Could you ever leave the house without any make-up on? Yes, I have left the house many times without makeup.
  19. Do you think you look good even without any make-up on? Depending on the day, but I think make up makes you look more pulled together.
  20. In your opinion, what is the BEST make-up line? This is hard one because I like so many lines for different products and I haven't gotten to try something things. I can't answer that and I don't know if I will ever be able to.
  21. What do you think of Make-up? Clearly I like it, I don't think you should have to feel like you must wear it to look pretty. I think it should be worn to give you a little more confidence in your life. for a

42 Beauty Questions (Part 1)

I did a tag video on my Beauty Channel in two parts, the first part was up at the end of January, the second part should be up February 4th or 5th (along with another blog post). I did 21 questions each time to keep the videos short. Below are the first 21 questions, feel free and answer them! Make sure you let me know so I can read/watch your answers!

TAG: 40 Beauty Questions (Part 1)

  1. How many times do you wash your face daily? I try and wash my face in the morning and at night, it doesn't always happen though.
  2. What skin type do you have? (dry, oily or combination)  I would say I have combination skin, some parts are really oily while other parts are dry. I have more dry/oily patches depending on the season.
  3. What is your current facial wash?  I use two different ones. One in the morning which is Morning Burst by Clean & Clear and one in the evening Fresh Foaming Cleanser by Neutrogena.
  4. Do you exfoliate? Yes, it is my favorite thing! It always makes my skin feel soft, I love it!
  5. What brand do you use? I try and exfoliate in every step, my morning face wash has little beads in in, as does one of my face masks. I do have two specific face exfoliators the first is St. Ives Naturally Clear Apricot Scrub and it has large beads. The second is BrightenUp! by Vasanti and it feels a lot like sand and it is quickly becoming my favorite.
  6. What moisturizer do you use? If you saw my January Favorites Post I talk about how in the morning I mix a tinted moisturizer with my moisturizer and at night I use the Neutrogena Naturals Multi-Vitamin Nourishing Night Cream. It is nice and thick to really moisturize my face at night.
  7. Do you have freckles? Yes, around and on my nose. They are more prominent in the summer when I get tan.
    My morning moisturizing products
  8. Do you use eye cream? No, let me know of a good you use!
  9. Do you or did you have acne prone skin? I have never had bad acne, but have always had some.
  10. Did you ever use ProActiv?  I believe my brother used it for awhile, so when he wasn't going to use it, I tried it.
  11. What foundation do you use? I am working on finishing a few and none of them are my favorite per say. I love BB creams though, my favorite that I have tried is one by Garnier. It is thick and covers decently well with out being heavy.
My two favorite "foundations" at the moment!
  12. How about concealer? I am also working on using up some old concealers but my favorite of all time is the Bo-ing by Benefit.
  13. Do you know your undertone color? I am not sure, I think it is neutral. Let me know if you think you know!
  14. What do you think of fake eyelashes? Never worn them and don't plan it. I hate pain and I have never really feel like I have needed them. My eyelashes have served me well.
  15. Did you know that you are supposed to change your mascara every 3 months? Yes I do know that but honestly I don't change it. I wait until the product is gone or it is dry.
  16. What brand of mascara do you use? I usually go with what ever packaging looks cool or if I have heard some good things about it. Currently, I am really loving one I got in my Birchbox from the brand Mally.
  17. Sephora or Mac? I like Sephora because there is more variety in products and in price.
  18. Do you have a MAC Pro-Card? No I have only ordered from MAC once, online.
  19. What make-up tools do you use in make-up application? I use brushes for any powder based products. I usually use a sponge or my fingers for any liquid product.
  20. Do you use make-up base/primer for the eyes? Sometimes, more often then not I use a cream eye shadow before I put powder eye shadows on and it hold it pretty well.
  21. For the face? A lot of times I don't, I will just use a moisturizer underneath. If I really want my makeup to stay for all day and more, I will use a primer. I like to use Smashbox's Photo Finish primer, it is light weight and silky on the skin.

Thanks for reading! Don't forget to answer these questions! Have a great day!
